What you need to get started:
- 1-2 pairs of good running shoes...
(my advice is to go to Santa Barbara Running or Outfooters, bring in your SBParent.com perk, and get educated help in finding the right shoe for your foot AND receive 15% off). Not having properly fitting running shoes is one of the top reasons people get hurt running.
- Find a coach and/or group to run with...
(recommendations: Santa Barbara Running and Racing at sbrunrace@yahoo.com, Momentum 4 Life at dawn@momentum4life.com, Mom's in Motion at reneeharrington@hotmail.com, or Body Boot Camp of Santa Barbara at info@bootcampsb.com) to facilitate a proper injury free running program.
- Cross train...
Remember, your heart and lungs don't know the difference between running and any other crosstraining cardio work (such as Elliptical, stairmaster, rowing, swimming, cycling, treadmill etc...)
- If you run twice a week with crosstraining interspersed in your week, you will be fit enough to have a great time in the Inuagural Select Staffing SBI Marathon or Relay!

SB International Marathon's Children's Festival - Saturday, December 5, 2009
SBCC La Playa Stadium 9am-2:30pm
Join in the family fun at the Children's Festival. Race are $10 and separated by age or grade. Participants range from 8 months to HS Seniors. We will start the festivities with a Masters Mile for those over 40 and still racing. Racers will get an award and a t-shirt. Spend time at our activities stations.
While you are there stop by the Health and Fitness Expo from 9am-6pm. |
